One amazing awesome trip to the US of A

Another one trip on my bucket list to strike off was to visit America. And the planning began when my cousin Lata in Atlanta told us her daughter Ruma was getting married in July 2014.

I boarded a flight to Los Angeles with Cathay Pacific on the 13th of June 2014. It was a very long flight and got to LA on the morning of 13th June 2014.

Hopped on a Delta flight to Detroit to visit my cousin Lakshmi whom I had not seen for 40 years. She was in tears and I was dazed from a whole day of flying alone 😁

New York is an amazing city

The streets of New York are filled with yellow cabs and sounds of sirens

Times Square which I have only seen on New Year's Eve every year on TV

A cocktail at The Plaza Hotel is luxury

Cambodia and its archaeological treasures

David and I have done a lot of travelling since our adult children told us one day in 2006 that we should travel more as a couple. We have done Australia , Europe and many countries in Asia too. One of the countries we had always wanted to visit is Cambodia namely Siem Reap for one reason to see the Angkor Wat. Thanks to Airasiago we booked a 4 days 3 nights trip and it cost us about RM950.00 for the both of us for flights and hotel. A very good offer indeed.

So the early morning of the 22nd of April 2014 saw the both of us heading off to the airport in our son's BMW driven by Andrew of course with Mel our daughter as co pilot. OMG the LCCT was so crowded in that unearthly hour of the morning. So byes were said and we boarded our flight AK 542 bound for Siem Reap. Nice flight and after 2 hours we landed in the Siem Reap International Airport. Headed towards the Immigration to find that the forms we filled on board was actually only a Customs form. So we had to wait for our arrival cards. They came and were filled and of course we came face to face with our first Cambodian ie the Immigration Officer. I always wonder why Immigration Officers around the world do not smile at all. They are a front line of a country and no smiles. I wish I could give a course on Smiling as i do a lot. Anyways all that done we got our luggage and were met by a smiling Cambodian from the hotel with a board reading Shashi Kalak Shanmugam...which David laughed to as my maiden name is Shashikala K Shanmugam. Anyway this driver was such a pleasant and polite person and drove us through the town of Siem Reap before we got to the hotel. First impressions of the city was that it was quite organised.

its a New Year

Wow the term Time flies is so true....first blog for 2014 and we have passed Christmas 2013 , New Year 2014 , Chinese New Year 2014 in a wink of an eye. I am not one for New Year resolutions because I know I don't ever keep them...I live my life One Day at a Time...going with the flow of things happening around me. My only new dream and hope for the year is to travel to places I have not been to yet and spend precious time with my husband and children and family and friends.

Well Christmas 2013 was real family time David's sister Anne and her husband John were with us. Lots of food to share and gifts were opened....around our Christmas Tree.

After Christmas it was a short trip to Singapore to unwind after all the Christmas eating and shopping and merry making. The highlight of the trip was having a Singapore Sling at the Raffles Hotel which was an awesome experience thanks to Anne and John.
