A month ago on March 6th 2011 , David's brother James turned 60 and at this threshold of life we asked him what he wanted to do..and he asked us to take him on a road trip to Thailand as he had not done it ever. So 3 cars with 11 of us...my family of 4...his family of 4...his son Sean's in laws..and my nephew started our Thailand adventure on the 4th of March. We drove from our home in PJ to Ipoh to meet with Chandran and Rebecca and for dim sum at Kao Lee restaurant. What a breakfast...after which we drove to the border where we stopped at Bukit Kayu Hitam to look around the duty free and buy Thai insurance for the cars. After all the clearances at Sadao Immigration Point we drove to Hatyai where we spent the night at Novotel Hotel. Hatyai is a busy town with lots to do...good food...relaxing massages...cheap pedicures and manicures...and great shopping. Dinner was at our usual Restaurant 59 which serves up great authentic Thai food at affordable prices.
The next day we drove to Krabi via Trang and we checked into the Aree Tara Resort on Ao Nang Beach. Krabi is much more touristy now...with lots of mat sallehs...compared to the time when David and I first visited in 2008. The resort was comfortable and just 5 mins from the main shops of Ao Nang. Dinner was great...shopping was good...massages soothing...and we waited to wish the birthday boy at the stroke of 12 by the beach with bottles of beer and fruit juices. What a way to start off a 60th birthday!
The next day saw the 11 of us renting a boat to go island hopping...and we were so glad we did it. Bamboo Island...Maya Cove...Monkey Island...Viking Bay and of course the ever famous Phi Phi Island. What beautiful islands and views that were etched in our memories for ever. Lunch was at Cosmic Restaurant on Koh Phi Phi and then it was back to Krabi for the birthday dinner at Fish International Restaurant at Ao Nang.
The next day we drove back to Hatyai where we stayed the night and then on the 8th we took a slow drive home after a dinner stop at Ipoh. We bid The Chandrans bye and we all went home safe...and have beautiful memories of a good fun family holiday. Thank you Ach , Gladys , Sean , Priya , Chandran , Rebecca , Sheeven ,David , Mel and Andrew for all the fun and laughter...you all make my life so complete.
