Heathrow , Swindon and The Stonehenge in Salisbury

Today my darling daughter Melissa arrived in London...and it is really great having her here with us for our trip and also Mother's Day. David and Simon went to Heathrow Terminal 4 to pick her and it was just so great to see her at the Suresh residence. Simon cooked up a big breakfast and there was chatter and laughter and the fellowship was great.

Then the classic question from David to Mel..."What would you like to do today?"...Mel's classic answer..." Shopping" . So the three of us set off to Swindon...the town of factory outlets..and we shopped at Marks and Spencer..Next...and a few more places. Had a quick sandwich lunch at a park near Swindon and we were off...back to Wokingham.

On the way on the M3...I read the signs leading off to Salisbury...and I mentioned to David that that was the place where the Stonehenge was. So we  followed the route that the GPS showed and passed by beautiful countryside..and saw some authentic thatched roof houses.... and arrived at Salisbury in the county of Wiltshire and had to follow the road to Amesbury...and there it was Stonehenge. We parked and got off and it was so cold..maybe about 10 degrees...and we walked towards the structure..my first impression...its not that gigantic as seen on National Geographic shows. After having a good look and several photos...we headed to the gift shop and to read more literature on this English Heritage site.

As were driving back to Wokingham..I turned to David and said...Finally we saw it...this stone structure that was built between 3000 BC and 1000 BC and till today no one knows how it came to be. We were all glad that we got to see this piece of history...that maybe...as David says...was built by aliens from another planet..and we ladies thought...nah...it just came to be.
