The 14th of May 2011 was the first day we ever experienced rain on our trip...and it was so cold about 10 degrees...so we wrapped ourselves up and even got plastic bonnets to cover our heads. Since the weather did not permit us to walk around the town we decided to drive to Pau a town near Lourdes. The drive was good inspite of the rain...we saw a foodstore called NETTO and David turned into the place so we could get a photo and there was also a petrol station with our surname.
Pau is a town on the northern edge of the Pyrenees .Someone once said: "Pau has the world's most beautiful view of the earth just as Naples has the most beautiful view of the sea"..Pau is a much bigger town then Lourdes and there were numerous shopping centres and we ladies were not in the mood for any shopping so we just sat in the car while David drove around. Pau is said to be the birthplace of Henry the IV. The day we were there , there was a Grand Prix of old cars held , running through the streets. After just driving around we decided to head back to Lourdes because we were leaving in the afternoon.
It was still raining and we had a quick lunch of sandwiches and headed towards the Pyrenees Haute Airport and we were very early. So we waited for the Ryan Air counter to open and we checked in and browsed around the Duty Free shop...and this was the first duty free shop that we had ever seen that was selling rosaries and religious articles. This was our first Ryan Air flight and we had heard all sorts of adverse comments about it so we braced ourselves for whatever that may come our way but guess what...the flight was on time and it was a good flight...and we were on our way to Milan , Italy ...and once again....no one stamped our passports as we left France for Italy.
We arrived at The Bergamo Airport about an hour away from Milan City and we were not surprised when our passports were not stamped as we got into Italy....something about the Shengen Treaty Got a coach bus to Milan City. We passed some big industries including Brembo which was a kilometre long and as we approached Milan we noticed there were a lot of apartment blocks and there was a lot of graffiti on the buildings. Not a very good first impression on this city that they called the fashion capital of the world. We arrived at the Central Station in Milan and as we got to the main street we got a glimpse of the Pirelli Skyscraper..the tallest building in Milan. So we tried to look for the hotel we booked and David found the New York Hotel on Pirelli Street and we checked in. Nice room for the three of us...and we settled in..and once again Brahims ready cooked meals were served for dinner. It was good. We rested as the next day we were going to tour the city...France was good...so Italy what are you going to offer The Nettos?
