The Monday morning of the 9th of May 2011 was beautiful....the sun was shining and the cool winds were blowing...after a simple breakfast we set off for Whitby a small seaside town about an hour's drive from Stockton. Dad was really excited that we were there to take him out for the day. The drive was pleasant with views of cows grazing...some places sheep feeding on green grass...and of course some fields of rapeseed.
We arrived at Whitby at about 11.00am and we could see the Whitby Abbey looking over the town from a hill and the last time I saw it was in 1995 with John and Chachi. We drove and parked and now that it was an English Heritage site we had to pay...so we paid. The Abbey is an Anglo Saxon Monastery which starting being built in 1220. What a breathtaking sight to behold....only the photos below can describe what we saw. After about an hour visiting the Abbey we drove down to the town centre and headed for lunch.
Whats best in a seaside town...fish and chips of course! So we stopped at Hadleys Fish and Chips...one of the best in town. After a hearty lunch which was really delicious...we took a walk around this quaint little town. Small shops lined the streets and of course scores of boats at the marina. Mel and I headed off to the shops while Dad and David sat at Subway for a coffee.
In the evening we set for home and Dad started fixing us a prawn cocktail and baked beans on toast peas for dinner. The ladies helped of course and it was a nice simple dinner and the company of Dad was great. Later we sent Dad to his local pub while David and I went for a drive and ended up in Middlesborough...and later the 24hr Tesco in Stockton. We went to bed once Dad was home and had to remind him that we were leaving the next day and he was really sad but knew we had to.
This time we spent with Dad was so precious and the three of us will treasure it all our lives....Dad you are great and we love you lots.
