Weserstein , Bad Karlshafen and Hann Munden

On this day the 20th of May 2011...Mrs Nicolay prepared a big breakfast..different kinds of German bread , cheeses , sausages...well it was big. .and Mr Nicolay entertained us with his stories...from Malaysia to Thailand to Africa..to south America.....wow he is a wealth of knowledge. It was really great to listen to the both of them and then of course watching them tease each other. Then at about 10am Mrs Nicolay got ready and she took us out for the day. But we stopped by to see her friend Freegen who baked us a cake for tea later....really nice lady...chatted for awhile and admired the houses in the neighbourhood.

First we drove by the Fulda River and went into Hann Munden where Harald stays..but we were only going to see them later. She took us to the confluence of the Fulda River and Werra River and this became one big river...the River Weser and this spot was called Weserstein. There were quite a few tourists from other parts of Europe there. And we just sat at the benches for awhile and watched these rivers and the boats in it.

After spending some time there we drove on to a small town called Bad Karlshafen...
Bad Karlshafen is a baroque, thermal salt spa town in the district of Kassel, in Hesse, Germany. It has 2300 inhabitants in the main ward of Bad Karlshafen. We parked the car and walked around this very clean quaint town. Stopped by to buy some postcards and magnets. And then went by the river Weser to see the City Hall. We also treated  Mrs. Nicolay to coffee and cake at a restaurant nearby. She shared with us her stories about the children and grandchildren. She is one wonderful lady.

After coffee and cake we walked back to the car and it was time to head back to Hann Munden to get to Harald and Gaby's home. And we came to Harald's place and Gaby welcomed us in and  Harald was working at his office. And looking around the living room of this 3 storey home...all we saw were glass tanks and they had snakes...yes snakes...because they are conservationists and they works with these different kinds of reptiles. Gaby made some pizza and we had a late lunch...it was yum. Lots of stories were exchanged over the dining table...minus snakes watching us...thank God...I am so afraid of them. Later we ladies went into the town and the boys were going to join us later.

Hann Munden is a very pretty town...popularly known as the city of three rivers...The Fulda The Werrra and The Weser. Beautiful old buildings line the roads...lovely houses...nice shops...but Gaby told us that they were 'invaded' by Turks who come and live on the German dole. How sad....well the Germans are sad that this is happening mainly because borders are open to them. Anyway we walked around this town and the boys came later to join us and they were on Harald's BMW bike.

We spent about two hours in the town and later the ladies went to the local supermarket while the boys went for a bike ride. After a full day out we went back to the Nicolay home and had a light dinner and went off to bed and a good night's sleep. Thank you Nicolays...it was a beautiful first day in beautiful Germany.
